Clinical Supervision for Qualified and Practicing Hypnotherapists

I offer regular and ad hoc online, telephone and email, one to one supervision; for qualified hypnotherapists practicing in the UK.

“Supervision is a supportive, developmental process where a therapist can review their client work with their clinical supervisor with the intention of delivering the best possible service to clients in a safe, ethical way.”

Supervision is designed to support you, in your clinical practice, to be the best hypnotherapist you can be, keep you and your clients safe and uphold the ethics and reputation of the hypnotherapy modality.

Working with me you can expect a solution focused model that challenges you to think about your clients and the work you do. This doesn’t mean I won’t share professional knowledge and experience, but that you will be encouraged to think about what you want to achieve and what success looks like for you.

It can be helpful to reflect on past cases, discuss future opportunities and gain insight into challenges and success in your practice. Clinical supervision is a requirement of professional practice and you are advised to keep up to date with the supervision requirements of your professional bodies.

FAQ’s

  • Supervision for hypnotherapists is a requirement of professional practice. Its principals are to ensure the client and hypnotherapist are working safely, for the client’s best interest. It is there to help a hypnotherapist work to their highest capability and within their capability, develop their skills and reflect on their clinical practice. Supervision takes place either one to one or in groups and can be in person, telephone or online. My style of supervision is solution focused and is a good developmental model for new and experienced hypnotherapists.

  • A supervisor for hypnotherapists is a usually qualified hypnotherapist with at least 300 hours and/or 3 years in professional practice. They further training and qualification to support therapists as their supervisor. I have level 5 supervision training undertaken through CPHT, which is recognised by the AfSFH, NCH and many other professional hypnotherapy associations.

  • If you are practicing in the UK and are a member of a professional association, yes. Different associations have different requirements. It is the therapist’s responsibility to ensure they meet those requirements, keep a record of supervision and present their record of supervision to their professional association if required.

  • Peer supervision is sometimes referred to as peer support or peer group and this is when a number of qualified and practicing hypnotherapists meet to discuss clinical cases and support one another to uphold best practice and develop. Peer group members undergo no extra training. Some professional associations allow their members to have only peer supervision after a number of years in practice.
